Z
Zemstvo Name given to the locals posts and stamps of
towns and districts in Russia beyond the scope of the Imperial postal services
.They were prevalent from about 1865 through to the Revolution in 1917, with
the most issues in the decade from 1890-99 (793 stamps). Indeed, during this
entire period from the start of modern stamp issues through to the 1917
revolution, the number of zemstvo issues were vastly greater than the number
of regular issues (probably because of the large number of regional bodies
all issuing zemstvo type stamps ) |
